I am always hesitant to write about spring finally arriving in Montreal – it’s almost like an invitation for yet another freak-act-of-God-snowstorm-when-you-least-expect-it – but I think it’s (almost) safe now…
As I write this the sun is actually shining, the temperature is well above zero, passers-by are actually smiling, and the prediction for the weekend is terrace weather. (I think that last year around this time I wrote about the Montreal terrace tradition: as soon as snow begins to thaw, restaurants and hardy souls begin to think about eating outside… tourists think we are nuts, but Montrealers, after yet another winters’s hibernation are READY …)
Another sure sign of spring is the return of baseball… although in Montreal the baseball wasn’t really returning, just here for a visit. (To find out more about baseball in Montreal, go here, or here.
Spring makes us think of singing in the rain (like Gene Kelly). And/or the soon to be consciously uncoupled Gwyneth Paltrow, but as I unfortunately inherited my mother’s voice, my singing is limited to in-car, with the windows up…
I think everybody has their own personal harbingers of spring: crocuses, skateboards, shorts, Popsicles, the smell of melting snow/mud… I’m just looking forward to dressing in fewer layers and spending more time outside. ☺
